Life Lately

It’s nearing the end of August! We have a busy few weeks coming up.  Aaron’s band has a bunch of shows and then Sam starts preschool and then we’re having a joint birthday party for the boys.  The party is going to be farm themed because they boys love tractors.  I have grand pinteresty plans so we’ll see how that plays out.

I’ve made a couple things on the sewing machine lately.  My sewing room is a huge mess.  I need to come up with a pattern organization system because my current system involves throwing them in piles all over the floor.  And my sewing room is a spacious 8×10.

I feel redundant posting pictures of the things I’ve made lately because I think a lot of people that read this blog also follow me on Instagram and I’ve already posted pics there.  If you don’t follow me on instagram, you can! I’m pam_foxandcotton.  I’ve really been into the Instagram “stories” lately.  I just wish more people would post them because I like watching them.  I’ve also read that some people don’t have Stories on Instagram yet.  Is this true?

Here are some pics of lately:

We took the T to the Pirate’s game a few weeks ago.  It was fun! and HOT.  We stayed through the 7th inning and Tucker completely skipped his nap that day.

We took away Tucker’s pacifier.  We started talking about taking it away around his second birthday which is the end of September.  And then one day Aaron was putting him to bed and Tucker didn’t ask for one so Aaron didn’t give him one…and that was the end of that.  It was way easier than I expected.

I tried to take a picture of the boys with balloons for their birthday party invitation but they all pretty much turned out like the ones below. fail.

I’m going to a baby shower this weekend and I’m making the cupcakes.  I made little fondant toppers for them which kind of made me want to make decorated cookies again.  Not enough to actually do it, but I thought about it for a minute.

I made these little baby pants using this free pattern.  They are really quick and use the tiniest amount of fabric.  I did the whole thing on my serger.  No top stitching or pinning required.

Now I hear Tucker waking up from his nap early… gooooo back to sleep

Wednesday

I read quite a few blogs.  A lot of them post “day in the life” posts every once in a while and I always like them.  So I kept track of most of our day today to thrill you with the excitement of it!

Here we go.

7:10 AM – Sam wakes up and comes into our room.  I pretend he’s not there until about 7:20.

7:20 AM – I get out of bed, make coffee.  Sam and I go into the living room while Aaron gets ready for work.

7:30 AM – Aaron leaves for work.  I drink coffee while Sam watches “Sid the Science Kid” on his Kindle.

7:40 AM – I hear Tucker waking but leave him in the crib while I drink coffee and think about what to do today.  (we have nothing scheduled wednesdays)

8 AM – Get Tucker out of the crib.  Change his diaper and get him some milk.  Make the boys French toast for breakfast, unload the dishwasher.  Strap Tucker into the high chair and leave the boys to eat while I get dressed and gather our stuff for the day.  (decided to go on the Hike it Baby hike in Frick Park)

8:30 AM – Clean up breakfast.  Eat my own breakfast.  Get the kids dressed and ready.  Play a while. Make beds.

9:40 AM – Leave for Frick Park.  Hike (used loosely) for about an hour then go to the playground for a while.  Enjoy being outside and feeling warm for the first time in months.

12 PM – Drive home.  Try to feed Tucker lunch but he won’t eat anything.  (he had a bunch of snacks at the park)

12:15 PM – Put Tucker down for a nap.  That’s really early for him but he’s still recovering from his sickness.

12:15-1:15PM – Institute quiet time for Sam and me.  I waste time on the internet, Sam watches more Sid the Science Kid

1:15 PM – Sam and I go outside with the monitor while Tucker continues to nap.  He rides his bike around, digs in the dirt, plays with an umbrella.  I clean all the junk out of my car then sit on the porch while Sam plays.imag9656_25281849289_oimag9663_25354267550_o

2:30 PM – come inside.  Tucker is still napping.  Sam plays with some legos then eats bread with butter which is his favorite thing to eat.  Peanut butter and jelly is a close second.  I make a couple phone calls about moving and fold some laundry.  Sam does some painting.

4 PM – Tucker is up!  Lonnnng nap for him.  I get him out of the crib.  He eats a banana and I start to get us ready to drive to the South Hills.  We slowly get ready and then leave at 5.

5 PM – Drive to the South Hills.  Sit in traffic forever while Tucker says “car car car” repeatedly and Sam says “Why are we stopped?  Why are we going slow?  Is there a red light?  What is traffic? Why don’t we go faster?”

5:40 PM – Pick up Chipotle for dinner and then drive to Dormont to look at a house.  Aaron meets us there at about 6:20.

6:20 PM – Go look at a house for sale to possibly live in or possibly buy as an investment or possibly for no real purpose at all other than we like to look at houses.  Wander around Dormont for a while then drive home.  Sam falls asleep in the car…

7 PM – Get home.  Try to convince the kids to eat some of their dinner that they refused to eat earlier.  Play

7:40 PM – not bath night for the boys so we put them in pajamas and do the bed time thing.

8:10 PM – boys in bed.  Aaron gets changed and heads to the Troy Hill house to work on it.

8:15 PM – I clean up the house then take a shower.  Then I put on music, sit on the couch and start typing this.

9:30 PM – Read/look at things online then I’ll probably go to bed around 11

I TOLD YOU IT WAS EXCITING! 🙂

Things to Do in Pittsburgh: October 2014

It’s October 12th already!  Tucker will be two weeks old tomorrow!  So far things are going pretty well.  My parents are in town staying with us, but will be heading back to Florida on Tuesday so that’s when I’ll be on my own during the days.

I meant to post the calendar for October at the end of September but that didn’t happen (giving birth happened) so I’ll just post it now.  Still a couple of weeks left in October. There are a couple small consignment sales coming up and the South Park Hay Day next weekend.

Things to do in Pittsburgh: September 2014

After I posted about the new upcoming events widget Monday, I figured out how to embed the calendar in a post.  It’s already the middle of the month so this just shows the remaining events for the month.  You should be able to click on the events to see more details.  I’ll plan on posting October’s calendar at the end of September.

Lot’s of things going on this weekend!

If you’re into yard sales, there is a huge neighborhood yard sale this Saturday in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Pittsburgh.  60+ families are participating and they even have food trucks coming!  Here’s a link to the website: 4th Annual Point Breeze Yard Sale  It’s 9 AM to 3 PM Saturday, 9/20/14

Family Update

Sam and I are both still a bit sick though we’re on the mend.  I got his cold so now all three of us have had it.  I’ve been napping while he naps this week.

The baby is due two weeks from today.  I should probably think about packing a bag and getting the car seat installed.  When I had Sam, I had a cold and an ear infection and it lingered forever probably because I was so exhausted.  I’m really hoping this cold goes away before the baby comes.

Sam’s new room is coming along.  Aaron finished the painting this weekend and installed the second new window.  The closet now has doors and the new baseboards are all installed.  He just has to finish the trim around the windows and the closet and then we’ll be done!

I’ve been slowly making my way around the house trying to organize and declutter.  We have a small house.  It’s about 1200 square feet, with small closets.  Sometimes I feel like I’d like a bigger house (with a second bathroom and maybe a fourth bedroom/office) and sometimes I think it’s nice to have a small space because it means we have to get rid of stuff and there is less to clean.

The Dining Room Table Makeover

I finally finished painting the dining room table last week!  It was a long, slow process that I drew out forever.

Sam had mother’s day out today so I went to Jo-Ann Fabric and picked out fabric for the chairs.  I also picked up two free stools from a Facebook group and I’m going to recover those as well as the two stools we already had.

Free stools until you spend $40 on batting and fabric…  I want to paint them too but I’m going to hold off on that.  The white stools need to be repainted so I want to do that all together.

The white stools were originally brown and I spray painted them.  Spray painting does not hold up on furniture like that.  Don’t do it!  Or maybe sand and prime and then use a top coat.  Don’t just spray paint like I did.

Sam and I don’t have much going on the rest of the week.  Maybe I’ll break out the finger paints tomorrow. That kid loves to paint.

Weekly Meal Plan #5 & New Upcoming Events Widget

Sam and I went to the grocery store this morning so we’re all set for meals for the week.

weekly meal plan sticker

Monday: Zucchini Lasagna (from Skinny Taste) (Determined to finally make this since I bought ricotta a week ago)
Tuesday: Slow Cooker Cashew Chicken (from Sally Cooks)
Wednesday: Homemade Pizza & Salad
Thursday: Home Group maybe or leftovers
Friday: Out or leftovers
Saturday: Hummus/veggie wraps
Snacks: Caramel Apple Energy Balls (from The NY Melrose Family)

How did I do with the meal plan last week?  I made the soy dijon chicken thighs and wasn’t really a fan.  I think I’m just not a fan of chicken thighs.  We ate it but probably wouldn’t make again.  I also had to bake mine way longer than the recipe suggested.

I made the slow cooker beef stew and we all loved it.

I made the Mediterranean Tortellini Salad except I didn’t follow the recipe at all and just made a pasta salad with random stuff we had in the fridge and bottled dressing.

I didn’t make the zucchini lasagna (but it’s on this week’s plan again) or creamy black bean chicken soup.

Also, I switched WordPress themes over the weekend.  I wanted a cleaner and wider format so hopefully this looks better to you!  I’m still tweaking it a bit.  I’ve also been messing with www.canva.com creating blog graphics like the pink one above.  I’m hooked.

Events Widget
Lastly I added an Upcoming Events in Pittsburgh widget over on the right side of the page (unless you’re looking at the mobile version).  I created a google calender with family-friendly events in the city and they’ll be listed there.  I also included all the upcoming consignment sales.  I hope this is helpful to you. If you know of an event to add, please let me know!
