Wednesday

The boys are at mother’s day out this morning!  I saw two mothers singing “Freedom, 3 hours of freedom” in the parking lot after drop off.

I sewed these two little hats over the weekend.  I used this free tutorial from Make It Love It.  It is e.a.s.y. and requires very little fabric. Plus just one pattern piece.  I’m getting sick of taping together patterns.  Especially since Sam finds and uses all of my tape all the time. (The only photo I had of them was from my Instagram)

I also sewed this little pillowcase dress over the last couple of days. I kind of want to make another because I still have more of that pretty, green fabric.  My favorite thing about that dress is the pink bias tape.

My phone almost died last weekend.  I ended up having to do a factory reset.  According to Verizon, it’s because I had 6,000 pictures on my phone.  Luckily, I did not lose them. What am I going to do with 6,000 pictures?

Yesterday, I massacred the hedges.  I don’t like these hedges.  They have spikes.  Who plants hedges that have spikes?  So after I trimmed them, I couldn’t pick up the clippings because they were stabbing me through my gloves.

I watched the Game of Thrones finale on Sunday.  omg.  That show is crazy.  I told Aaron I think it’s the best show I’ve ever seen.  He’s never watched it.  Is another book coming out soon?  I’ll be curious to see how it differs from the show.

I’m wearing my homemade tank today.  This is right now.imag0089_27945547236_o

Alright, 2 more hours until I have to pick up the kids. 🙂

Random Thoughts

This weekend I am going to stay at a hotel by myself.  For two nights.  By myself.  Completely by myself.  My birthday is Sunday. Aaron asked me what I wanted and I said, “to stay in a hotel by myself for a night.”  So he booked it!  I don’t know where yet but he said it’s not far.

I haven’t been away from Sam and Tucker for two nights EVER.  And Sam is 3.5.  Maybe this is why I’m crazy.

I’m listening to a song on repeat right now.  I’m not going to say what it is.  I am not a music snob.  Aaron says I’m a beer snob though.  I mean, I just don’t drink enough to justify drinking bad beer anymore.  I drink like 2 beers at most so they better be good ones.

I am going to be 32 on Sunday.

I haven’t been sewing much.  I made a pillowcase dress yesterday out of fabric scraps.  I used this pattern. I am making a few for a friend to take on a mission trip to Africa.  They’re kind of fun to make. Plus I made bias tape for the first time which was oddly satisfying.

We are moving at the end of the month.  Back to the suburbs.  In fact, back to the exact same house from which we moved in August!  We may be crazy.  But I’m excited.  I like moving.  I like change.  I can’t really imagine buying a house and staying in it forever.  AH.

I am still debating what I want to do with my free time.  I think I’ve definitely ruled out sewing things to sell.  I really don’t like making the same thing over and over again so that’s probably not my best bet.  So I guess my Etsy shop is closed for good.  I can’t just do nothing though.  So maybe I’ll blog more.  Maybe I’ll blog more about sewing or about our days or both.  Probably, it’ll be sporadic though I’ll likely proclaim a “blogging schedule” at one point or another that I won’t follow.

I can’t wait until it gets warmer and we can be outside all day.

I’m feeling very introspective lately.

Toddler Dress with Buttons

imag8891_24211483093_oI pinned this little free dress pattern to my sewing pinterest board a long time ago and finally got around to making it.  To be honest, if my serger wasn’t STILL in the shop, I probably wouldn’t have made this.  But it’s a pattern you don’t really need a serger for.  Just a zig zag stitch.

It’s only three pattern pieces and doesn’t take much fabric at all.  I just had this fabric on hand from other projects.

The bodice is lined but the skirt is not.  I actually want to make this in my size but figured I should follow the pattern first and then attempt to make an adult size pattern.  I managed to cut and get most of the dress finished during Tucker’s nap.

Also, the seam allowance is in metric.  And I hemmed the skirt too much because I was being lazy, so maybe it’s on the shorter side for a 2/3T.

This pattern was fairly easy but it involves a placket and I had no idea what that was… Rather than spending the time googling, I just kind of guessed, so the back is a little messed up.  It works though. (You can see how the placket is a little uneven/bunched in the picture above.)

For the back, I cut buttons off of one of Aaron’s old shirts because it’s what I had on hand.  If I make it again, I’ll probably buy some buttons that are a little bigger and contrast more. And you know, they’d match, whereas these ones don’t. Also, I broke three buttons sewing them!  I refused to hand sew them so I used my machine.  It’s a miracle I didn’t break any needles.

Also, sewing button holes is oddly satisfying.

imag8889_24470701419_oI sent the dress to the daughter of a friend from high school.  She is adorable!

I think, if I attempt to make this in an adult size, I’m going to have to mess with the bust and lower the waist a little.  Plus I think I’ll shorten the sleeves.  I like the cap sleeves but I would like them to be a little less capped.  No clue if I could actually manage this!
